Orozco: Man of Fire and Rivera in America

2006, Laurie Coyle, Rick Tejada-Flores | 1988 Rick Tejada-Flores
116 Mins.
Feature Documentary

Orozco: Man of Fire — "Crisp black-and-white footage of turn-of-the-century Mexico blends with the bold, beautiful imagery and sometimes shocking intensity of José Clemente Orozco's art–and a beautifully orchestrated score by David Conte–in this portrait of a remarkable Mexican master often overlooked beneath the imposing shadow of archrival Diego Rivera. Orozco painted the first American fresco at Pomona College and was ultimately recognized as “the conscience of a generation.” — J. Parsont, Mill Valley Film Festival

Rivera in America — A documentary examining those works of Mexican artist Diego Rivera which he painted in the United States and the controversy and public debate that surrounded them. The artist's influence on American art and his lasting legacy are also explored.

NOTE: This film program replaces "Un retrato de Diego" which has been removed from the Festival program. The scheduled screening of "Un retrato de Diego" and party at the San Francisco Art Institute on 11/16 has been canceled. In Sacramento and San José this double feature will be screened instead of "Un retrato de Diego".
